Saviour of night shifts. Leftover rice bake and a bottle of Jimmy’s original. Although it looks like I’ve inadvertantly invented a Jimmy’s mug bottle. #jimmysicedcoffee #kycu / on Instagram http://ift.tt/1u9fXFz
Hurrah! Although the nurse said my BMI is 27 so she thinks I should lose some weight, but my waist circumference is in the “perfect” range. I didn’t know they still used BMI. Anyway, my LDL cholesterol is spot on, but my HDL is less than half what it should be. She suggested I start drinking those Benecol drinks (I think she may be on their payroll, she mentioned them a few times). But I would rather just eat more fruit and vegetables and oily fish and see if I can raise it using diet.
But overall I’m in good shape. I had to laugh when she pricked my finger for the cholesterol test, as she couldn’t get any blood out. It seems I heal rather quickly. Tried pricking a finger on the other hand and I was literally squeezing my finger as hard as I could to get enough blood to run the test. She said that’s a sign of being healthy right there.
And no lubed finger butthole action necessary. Apparently that’s for much older guys (thank God).
Okay, so I’ve reached that age where the NHS assumes I’m about to become a huge burden and they want to assess how old and broken I actually am. Shortly before my birthday I received a letter inviting me to a free health check, as they want to try and prevent things like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
This is all good and fair (and free!), but the check takes half an hour, and I’m fairly sure it will involve taking blood, and at some point a lubricated latex clad finger is going to come into play, so to speak.
But for some reason it sounds like downtown New York here today. There’s car alarms, police sirens, shouting, the pub next door is having a delivery so all I can hear is beer kegs being rolled off a truck, there’s more traffic than I’ve ever heard here.
I’m sure it has something to do with me starting night shifts tonight, and the fact that at 3.30pm I’ll be trying to get a few hours sleep.
So that’s nice.
